What is 3D Visualization?

Visualization is the practice of creating images or diagrams to illustrate concepts and ideas that are hard to describe using words alone; it’s an idea that’s been used for centuries in the form of drawings and diagrams. 3D visualization is a modern interpretation of this practice, and involves the use of software like Adobe Dimension to create realistic 3D models which represent an idea or concept.

For this reason, 3D visualization is used in a variety of industries to produce graphics and diagrams that would be difficult to imagine otherwise.

Decals

Short for ‘Decalcomania’; creating a traditional decal involves transferring printed or engraved designs onto surfaces like metal, ceramic, or plastic. The practise dates back to the 18th century, but it’s commonly used in modern product design to give packaging a stronger sense of brand identity.

Unlike other types of product branding like labels, decals are usually designed not to be removable, so they become a permanent part of a product’s design. For this reason, it’s important to include decals in a 3D product visualization in order to get an accurate sense of the final appearance.

Adobe Dimension allows us to add decals to our designs by converting 2D images (like our logos) and applying them to a 3D surface.

We’ll be showing you the basics of the 3D visualisation process in our video tutorial, but first let’s hear from Ben Bowen on the subject of visualising a brand.

Why is Visualizing a Brand Important?

TASK Part 3

In our third video tutorial James Field introduces the Adobe Dimension interface and shows you how to create a simple 3D visualisation demonstrating your brand ‘in situ’.
