Tutorials

Now that you’ve explored logo design and icon design, let’s review this week’s lecture from your tutor Colin Maxwell:

Graphics and Illustration Class 4. The Four Icon Challenge.

Assignment

Using Adobe Illustrator, create a series of four graphic icons that attempt to boil down stories into four icons while keeping the narrative intact. This could be based upon a well-known film, TV series or Novel.

I hope that this assignment will challenge you to re-examine some of your favorite stories and gain a deeper understanding of them.

Step 1: Research - Brainstorm a list of at least 5 movies that you would like to use for your Icon Challenge.

Step 2:  Create 3 sets of prelimanry sketches of possible movies that you might make with the 4 icon challenge.  Color is optional but helps the process.

Step 3:  Choose 1 movie and Create the 4 icons in Illustrator.   As a finishing touch add a 5th icon that runs along the bottom of your sequence. Please use a landscape orientation for your artboard.

Step 5:  Insert pictures of all artifacts (research and sketches) into your portfolio and reflect of the process and project.

Step 6:  Submit a pdf of your artwork to Moodle.  Remember to include the updated link to your Portfolio. Remember to export the PNG with a transparent background. Post your reflection in your portfolio on what you learned, what was difficult and what was easy.
