Tutorial

In this week’s video tutorial Shaloni Naik shows you how to bring together everything we’ve discussed so far to create a graphic which represents a well-known piece of media in a minimalistic style.

Tutorial 5 - Reduce, Reduce, Reduce

Now that you’ve explored some background information about film posters, color and design layout, let's review this week’s lecture from tutor Melissa Arnold:

Assignment

Create a simplified minimal film poster of a popular movie.

STEP 1: Your selection of movie is important for this exercise. The movie must be known to the viewer for the assignments to work, and although we can’t expect all the participants to have seen all the same films, selecting blockbusters like King Kong and Jaws will make this a more enjoyable and responsive experience. START by scribbling down the five most well known movies you can think of.
STEP 2: Sketching : Make many adaptations to your selection, then start by sketching out the key characters and sequences the film is known for.  Make some simple sketches of those iconic moments and choose the one that best represents the entire film. This is not as simple as it sounds, and will require some serious thought.
STEP 3: Upload a snippet of your sketches to your adobe spark page.
STEP 4: Choose one key moment from your sketches and create a minimal poster in Illustrator. The artboard should be an 11x17 inches portrait.  Repeats steps 2-4 for a 2nd movie.
STEP 5: Save you Posters as PDF and submit it to Moodle.
STEP 6: Export your Posters as a PNG and upload it to Adobe Express.   Write a reflection on the entire process as you created your poster.    Submit the link to the Notes section in Moodle.  (Remember to update your link)

If you finish early create another for extra credit.
