Directions: Elements of Design

Chelsea Lewis, Graphics Arts teacher has combined these two goals into an 18 part video series on Youtube.   Your task will be to view the 18 videos and complete the project that she instructs you to build.   

The tutorials will guide you in creating a single document in Illustrator.  Due to the fact that Illustrator files can become large in size, please use the M: drive to save your work.   (Saving to Google Drive or another cloud based storage may slow down your progression through this lesson.) 

The M: Drive can be found under ‘This PC’. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find a long pathway that includes your username.   (Warning:  If your PC disconnects to the internet; your document might not save correctly.  The easiest way to guarantee that it is working is by creating a new file and saving it immediately.  This will ensure that it ends up in the correct location. Save your file frequently by selecting the save button or using the shortcut ‘crtl+s’)

Name the file ElementsofDesign_Yourname.ai.    After you complete the assignment save the file as a PDF as well.  Store both files in the M: drive

The videos go through six of the elements of design.

Block 1 -  Videos 1 through 6 

Block 2 - Videos 7-12

Block 3 - Videos 13-18

You will create artboards for Lines, Shapes, Color, Value, texture, and space.  See the guide below to review what is required from each video.

For the element of Line - complete 10 lines not 20

For the element of shape - complete all

For the element of color - complete all

For the element of value - complete 1 

For the element of texture - complete 6

For the element of space - complete all

Scoring:

Format - Proper use of guides and titling of the artboards. (12 pts)

Correctly followed the directions for each element. (30pts)

The file is saved used the naming sequence, as an ai file and a pdf file and in the M: drive (5pts)
